Every DUGOUT CANOE journey is different. The trees find me in many different ways. I go to them, and take it from there. Sometimes they're very hard to get to, but sometimes they're dumped right in my lap! Sometimes I use nothing but hand tools, but sometimes a chainsaw is a really good idea. I like to use a grinder as a finishing tool. My goal is to make the best canoe possible! I have worked on pine, cedar, cottonwood, and redwood trees, so far. Each wood, indeed each DUGOUT CANOE, has their own unique characteristics. I use the natural shape of the tree when helping it transform... these canoes are NOT symmetrical, but they ARE beautiful!
Custom canoes are made-to-order... YOU set the parameters! (see Custom Canoes)
I paddle ALL of the trees, as I must introduce them to the water, and give them a story. This also functions as a "test float" for the canoe. I stand behind these creations. They are made to be PADDLED!
